SCI COASTAL ALASKA BLACK BEARS

Black Bear Hunts
After years of experience we pride ourselves in taking only the best trophies. Most of our black bears square well over seven feet. Our average black bear weighs over 400 lbs. Our areas boost many SCI and B&C bears taken every year. We rarely take a bear that would not make Pope and Young. We provide an excellent opportunity to harvest rare color phase bears, with glacier bears spotted in the area yearly.
In Alaska we specialize in black bear hunting. This allows us to offer black bear hunts during the peak of the season. Many outfitters will hunt brown bears during the peak and try to hunt black bears before and after. While this can be successful, we have found that the best hunting for all bears is from the end of April until late May and occasionally in September. We run a very small operation, we usually take two hunters per trip, but can easily accommodate larger groups if they want to come together. This allows us to focus on each client individually. It also ensures that my areas maintain a healthy population.
Southeast Alaska is the number one hunting area in the world for trophy bears. You can hunt other areas in Alaska, some with two bear bag limits. But these bears are typically much smaller and are not part of the SCI Coastal Island bear area. Choosing to hunt with us will provide you with the best opportunity for a true trophy black bear.
Don’t be fooled by little Canadian bears, even those on Vancouver Island. You will not find a better opportunity to find a trophy black bear coupled with such an exciting hunt.
Spring Hunts: Our spring hunts are highly successful, we have been 100% for the last three years with all of our clients going home with excellent trophies. In the last few seasons we have had a 19 ½ skull average with one skull reaching 21 inches. We take on average 2 to 3 large cinnamon phase bears per spring, with one reaching the elusive 8 foot mark in spring 2006.

COLOR PHASE BEARS

Our spring hunts are all fair chase, spot and stalk beach hunts. We will be spending the nights on the big boat and spend days cruising in comfortable 18 foot skiffs looking for bears in various bays and fjords. It is not only an effective way to hunt, it provides for a beautiful, unforgettable hunting experience.
Most of our bears are taken within 200 yards of where we put the boat on the beach. Clients of any physical condition can be successful. Our shots range from 50 yards to 150 yards. Archery hunters are welcome and if you are proficient with a bow you should have no problem going home with a P&Y class bear. We have also had great success with handgun hunters.
We take many father son/daughter trips, our method of hunting provides for an excellent family experience.

Sitka Black Tail Deer
Keegan has been hunting Sitka Black Tail Deer for over 25 years in SE Alaska. We have taken this experience and turned it into a great hunt for our clients. We will hunt black tails all over SE, depending on weather conditions, snow fall levels and conditions of the rut. Clients have had a great time hunting these beautiful deer and rarely go home empty handed.
Sea Ducks
During the peak of the Sitka Black Tail Deer hunting season the sea ducks are moving in. It is not uncommon to harvest a mixed bag of harlequin, scooters (White wing and Surf), golden eye (Common and Barrows), old squaw and bufflehead. These beautiful ducks are a fantastic compliment to any trophy room and provide for an exciting wing shooting adventure.
Mountain Goat Hunts
Ocean Point Alaskan Adventures offers world class opportunities to harvest trophy mountain goats. Our area is seldom hunted, and has produced many large billies. One goat recently taken scored 53 B&C, making the all time book.
We have one of the best areas in SE Alaska for Mountain Goat hunting. Our exclusive guide area borders Glacier Bay National Park. We are the only guiding operation permitted to hunt this area and we have seen many great trophies harvested. It is a tough hunt physically, but can be very rewarding when you are headed down the mountain with a huge billy.
We only take out one hunter at a time, unless you book two. As with all of our trips we work hard to make these a personalized, once in a lifetime experience. We will either fly in or hike into alpine camps, depending on weather and location of goat herds. We work hard to offer a true trophy goat hunt, averaging over 9 1/2 inches on most billies.
Join us for either an early season alpine hunt or a late season hunt when the goats have full, beautiful hair.
