Ocean Point Alaskan Adventures is a full
service guiding outfit offering access to the remote bounties of
southeast Alaska.
Our trips are led by Registered
Alaskan Hunting Guide Keegan McCarthy. Keegan has been hunting in
Alaska for over 25 years and was raised in the backwoods of Alaska.
Keegan is not only an experienced guide he is also a commercial
fishermen (yes, like Deadliest Catch) and avid outdoorsmen. He
truly lives in Alaska, spending more nights in a bunk than at home
in bed. He holds a US Coast Guard Master's licenses as well as Big
Game and Fishing Guide licenses. He began his guiding career
working for some of the best known outfitters in the state. He has
used his extensive knowledge of the Alaskan outdoors to provide for
a safe and successful hunting opportunity for all our guests.
We specialize in black bear hunting.
This allows us to offer black bear hunts during the peak of the
season. Many outfitters will hunt brown bears during the peak and
try to hunt black bears before and after. While this can be
successful, we have found that the best hunting for all bears is
from the end of April until late May. We do not offer hunts late
into June, or fall bear hunts.
Our black bear area is second to
none, with many Boone and Crocket bears taken every year. We run a
very small operation, we usually take two hunters per trip, but can
easily accommodate larger groups if they want to come together.
This allows us to focus on each client individually. It also ensures
that my areas maintain a healthy population.
Last season (2008) we took out 14
black bear clients. All our hunters were presented with shot
opportunities on trophy bears. Eleven hunters went home with
exceptional trophies. We had 2 archery hunters who had shots inside
30 yards, but underestimated the shots. One elderly hunter got a
little case of “buck fever” and missed a shot at a nice bear. Of the
eleven bears harvested, 5 were in the 20 inch range, and our
“smallest” skull was just less than 19 inches. All of our bears in
2008 squared well over 7 foot, with two bears coming close to the
eight foot mark. We did not harvest any color phase bears in 2008,
which is rare, as we typically harvest two or three a season. We
have seen glacier bears in the area but have yet to harvest one.
We sell our trips as more than a
hunt, we strive to provide you with a true Alaskan Adventure. You
will not only be hunting trophy bears, we will provide you with
opportunities to view the true Alaska. It is rare that you do not
see whales, eagles, seals and a host of other sea life. Glaciers can
be seen in many of the areas we hunt, and iceberg cocktails are not
uncommon. Living everyday in the areas I hunt allows me to have a
special inside knowledge of the areas we will be exploring.
Our high bear populations, combined
with our method of hunting (spot and stalk boat hunts) is an
excellent combination for harvesting trophy bears. We work hard to
ensure all of our clients go home happy, while working to maintain
respect and stewardship of our bear populations. All of our hunts
are truly fair chase, bears are not meant to be baited or chased
with dogs. .
Ocean Point Alaskan Adventures is
